Why these defaults?

The country code comes from ISO 3166. Unicode CLDR supplies presentation-oriented locale, currency, paper, date, language, calendar, numbering, and direction metadata. Defaults reduce setup time; they do not decide what a valid document must contain.

Document vocabulary and checks

Core Maltese tax-invoice versus fiscal-receipt applicability, ordinary and simplified invoice particulars, six-year VAT-record baseline and current e-invoicing/DRR planning boundary are reviewed. Identifier validation, approved fiscal-receipt issuance, special regimes, public-buyer requirements, later mandate changes, authority transmission and transaction-specific treatment remain separate checks or unimplemented functions.

  • Guidance: A Maltese tax invoice in scope includes issue date, unique sequential number, supplier name/address/VAT number, customer name/address and applicable VAT number, quantity and nature of goods or extent and nature of services, supply or payment date where different, taxable value and unit price by rate or exemption, discounts, VAT rate and VAT payable, plus special wording where exemption, reverse charge, cash accounting or a margin scheme applies. Simplified invoices have a narrower set and fiscal receipts follow separate controls.Evidence MT_MTCA_INVOICE_RECEIPT_FAQ · reviewed 2026-07-19 · review by 2027-01-19 · automation advisory only

Invoices must be stored in their original paper or electronic form.Evidence MT_MTCA_VAT_RECORDS · reviewed 2026-07-19 · review by 2027-01-19 · automation advisory only
  • Guidance: MTCA states that it is studying e-invoicing and real-time reporting implementation. This preview neither proves that a later mandate is absent nor creates a fiscal receipt, public-sector structured invoice, authority report or transmission; check the current MTCA position before issue.Evidence MT_MTCA_EINVOICING_DRR, MT_EC_EINVOICING · reviewed 2026-07-19 · review by 2027-01-19 · automation advisory only
