Country-aware checks

  • Tax terminology: VAT
  • Business ID label: BIR File Number / VAT Registration Number
  • A Trinidad and Tobago VAT tax invoice should say ‘Tax Invoice’ and include a serial number, issue date, supplier name, address and VAT registration number, recipient name and address, a complete goods or services description, the VAT-exclusive amount, VAT value and total supply value.
  • Use the supplier's VAT Registration Number on a VAT tax invoice. BIR file-number and VAT-registration obligations depend on the business and registration status; this guidance does not register the issuer or decide whether it must charge VAT.
  • VAT books and records include tax invoices, proforma invoices, waiver certificates and their issued copies. Keep them in Trinidad and Tobago for at least six years after the end of the last tax period to which they relate, subject to the Act's written-release and winding-up exceptions.
  • The official VAT service provides registration, returns and tax administration. This browser-local printable invoice does not register an issuer, file a VAT return, obtain a BIR or VAT number, or transmit an authority-issued fiscal document.
